I'm also getting tired of "netbehaviour". When people are anonymous, their true self comes out. And as it seems there are a lot of rude, uncivilized people out there. For instance, I was selling some items once and the first thing a guy said "Let me see!". Stupid as I was I had to walk a while to where he was. Made a trade session and after he silently decided that he wasn't interested he canceled the session and ran away without saying anything. A sad character that I bet never heard about the word decency and respect.

I learned from it though, next time when someone gets in contact with me like that without asking nicely I will just completely ignore him/her. Those people have to be tackled about their behaviour. We have to learn them that there are negative consequences when you don't behave civilized. When one misbehaves in a party, everyone has to let him/her know that it is not tolerated and throw him out of the party if necessary. But in practice almost nobody acts and speaks out. We have not created a civilization for nothing. It's the reason why we can live together peacefully. Think bigger guys. We have a real problem in society too. We have to act.

hmm i d say that most people dont care cauz they are not in front of you so they think they have the right to do whatever they want, being rude, and dont saying a word, not even "thank you" during a trade, are a lil part of this
Those jerks "know" that you cant obviously do a thing , not like IRL ...
They dont care, just ask for a need in game, they take it and leave (that's always like that when doing a trade)

considering computers and the internet is basically built on simplicity, i find it pretty logical that people would use abbreviations to limit the amount of typing, like if you were writing code, why would you have a dozen lines of code just to make it look better? these are the people who first made and populated the internet, its the reason why when you highlight a piece of text you can copy and paste it for ease or theres a quick reply at the bottom of the page. computers are made by and for "lazy" people and if it wasnt for that youd still be using a text based operating system. however calling someone a noob or such is just a new form of insult, and pretty retarded at that, considering it makes you look about ten times dumber then the person you just "insulted".

I just find it sad when people have to shorten already short words. What being typed wut or wat. To being typed 2.

There is rarely ever a need to have to type fast. You shouldn't be typing during combat. Taking the extra micro-second isn't going to make your text any less important. It will actually make it look more important.

Correct! You shouldn't be typing during combat. However, because some people just don't Get It you end up doing just that.

Why is the concept of stopping after a big fight so hard to understand? By stopping and Healing/Recharging you have a golden oppertunity to plan your next moves. Granted you don't ALWAYS have to plan a move. But on hairy missions that take some skill it is a good idea to know what is coming and who is doing what. ie: Pulling,Calling Target,Running pass instead of fighting, etc.

To me, by stopping for 15 secs can be the difference of winning or losing a mission. I just do not Get It why running and attacking before everyone is ready seems to be the norm in this game. One of the Skill Factors to me is the planning. The tactical strategy in other words. In a group we are no different then a squad in the field. Like a patrol in a real army. You have a squad leader, and usually a second in command. They just do not go out and attack "Willy nilly". They have a PLAN of ATTACK.

Enough said...

One I use often is NE1 for anyone. "NE1 looking 4 monk 4 bonus only?" like that.

Netspeak...so that's what it's called. Here I've been calling it "TXT" because I thought that it was created for people doing TXT MSGing on their cellphones, and it takes a long time to type stuff out just using your thumbs.

And I understand that rationale. But I don't understand the messages...because let's face it, I'm old. Trying to read netspeak is like trying to work out a rebus, and just like a rebus, I sometimes don't get the right interpretation for an ambiguous symbol. So I skip over it until I can find something I can understand. I can forgive misspellings, bad grammar, as long as the person trying to communicate isn't trying to talk in code, and that to me is what netspeak is. I don't want to have to decode a message before I can try to understand what the meaning is.

I may be the second oldest person playing this game. Really. I say that because I know my husband is older.

I will challenge you to an Age Off. I remember having a rotory phone, Air conditioning was only in Luxury cars. Hair cuts cost 50 cents. Have you received your AARP letters yet?

Seriously I always welcome the order crowd like myself. I get so many youngens in the game that ask me:"You play GAMES?" I will be playing computer games even when my kids throw me in a home.

people are just as rude IRL. Note how many people actually thank you for holding a door open for them nowadays.

and what can you do IRL anyways? You gonna go around and punch people in the face for this? Would be a good deterrent but not very practical hehe.

and look, we're using netspeak right now...IRL! No wait, it's a message board. ROFL!

I remember rotary phones and so much so that I bought one in an "antique" shop (and wept while I was at it LOL!) so that during power outages, I could call the power company and complain!

AC in cars: Never was just a "luxury" in Arizona.

Haircuts for 50 cents? Yep, I remember. But I also remember my dad taking the 'clippers' to my poor brother's head with disastrous results.

AARP letter...err...you got me there. I've not gotten one yet.

I love it when someone says: "Don't you like have a life, dude? What is someone your age doin' playin' a kid's game?" Like you, I'll probably be playing them when I'm in Depends, have forgotten my kids' names and am eating baby food for every meal.

Besides, I almost always retort with, "My dad plays Diablo, GW, NWN, Divinity and a bunch of others....and he's 74."

People can say something about it or show that they don't appreciate it, instead of being indifferent. You must confront the other with his/her behaviour. If nobody reacts they will start to think that it's normal behaviour. People can also be more aware to be nice to other people. For instance, in the train the conductor always says hello and I decided to say hello back from now on! It's in the little things. People wil get less negative about other people then. It's an interactive thing. An upward spiral instead of a downward.

BTW, I noticed that people in the USA are generally much more nice than people here in Europe. In fact the difference was pretty big. Something strange happened to Europe.

Anyway, I feel like I'm starting to look like a school teacher now

My Dad gave us haircuts too. It was rare when we went to the Barber shop. The good old "Butch/Buzz" cut was all my Dad could do. Did it ever hurt when he "nicked" us and gave us that dent look.

Arturo02, I did walk to school though. 3-4 miles one way. Busing? Ha! That was not in the cards. My older Brother used a belt for his books. Well he fought in the Civil War..I was in the Spanish American War.

Aniewiel, Hmmm...Depends? there is a good idea to use them now. You don't have to wait for cutscenes to make your mad dash.

All in good Fun....

I received my first AARP letter years ago. Since I'm female, I am not telling how many.

We were just pondering the universality of air conditioning yesterday, in the 110 degree heat index. Our mothers kicked us outside at 9 a.m. and didn't expect us back until lunch, no matter what the weather.

And just to make it relevant to the actual thread, if I ever send my mom a note that says "Hw r u?", she'll check the postmark to see what country it came from.

cynhounds,

By no means am I asking your age. I will not fall in that trap, nor will I be that rude toward you. I find it pretty darn spiffy that an older married couple play online together.

Also I always find that older women are The Bomb. Just ask my wife of 22 years. She will agree with me.

As for the spirit of this thread...we may seem to be off topic however, we are just writing in a form that ALL can understand. Leading by Example.

the fact that you associate the development of "leetspeak" with gamers takes all merit away from your post. Educate yourself before you rant.....especially when you rant about the declining intellect of the common person.

Seriously? 12 year old internet cool guys are the ones who first made and populated the internet? Oh man, Al Gore's gonna be soooooo mad. You know, there's a difference between efficient and degenerate.

hi = efficient
sup = degenerate

Maybe the guys who first manufactured computers got their funding by writing the to the venture capitalists like this:

u n00bletz nedz 2 give me $$$ 4 comp d00d roxxorzzzz!!1!1! pwned~!

I'm sure that's how it happened. Roxxorz on!

Personally I only use that crap if I'm just messing around. When I start typing in caps, that's when you should stop taking me seriously. If someone starts typing in caps, that's when I stop taking them seriously (unless their spelling and grammer is atrocious in the first place).
Irvine Welsh (author of Trainspotting) writes in dialect. It accurately reflects the way people speak. Good or bad - don't know
